These eight women and eight men are looking for a slice of the success made by hit shows The Only Way Is Essex and Made In Chelsea. But while they don’t mind laughing at themselves they won’t have anyone laughing at their beloved city. “When I was offered the opportunity to do Scousewives I thought why not have a show about Scousers and sell our beautiful city? And I wanted to be part of that,” says make-up artist Jodie Lundstram.

She insists her fellow cast members are all protective about the way Liverpool will be portrayed and hit back at some of the criticism the programme has received since filming started last month. Says Jodie: “No one has seen the show yet so I think it is really unfair to criticise it before it has even began. It will show the glitz and glamour of the city. That’s real and I think we should show off our city.

“We do laugh at ourselves. Scousers have a unique sense of humour. But I feel very strongly about people laughing at the city. I said that to the people behind the show. But people like (executive producer) Mal Young and others who are involved are from Liverpool or have lived in the city. So no one wants to show Liverpool in a bad light.

“Like with (The Only Way Is) Essex we’re living our lives on camera. I’m a reality TV addict and TOWIE is so beautifully filmed. And we are portraying Liverpool beautifully. It will show us at parties but there is more to Liverpool than the nightlife.”
