Manchester United’s Anders Lindegaard is hoping to make a claim to be the Premier League holder’s first choice goalkeeper this season. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson signed the shot-stopper from Aalesund in January but the Denmark international is yet to play a league game.
Manchester United are widely expected to sign Atletico Madrid’s David de Gea to replace Van der Sar – who retired at the end of the last campaign – but the 27-year-old is confident he can make an impact at Old Trafford.
"I am really excited to get things started. It will be an exciting season for me and for the team," he told Norwegian newspaper Sunmorsposten. "I will fight with all I have for the [goalkeeper's] position to be mine.
"The goal for Manchester United is to win as many titles as possible and I will do my best to contribute to this.”Lindegaard arrived at Old Trafford largely unknown to Premier League spectators in the last transfer window. He has made four appearances for the senior national side as well as collecting a number of youth caps in Denmark Under-19 and Under-20 games.
