Robbie Fowler has joked about the possibility of Manchester United wantaway Wayne Rooney joining him at Perth Glory, saying that he is "very interested" in joining the Australian outfit. The former Everton forward refused to sign a new contract at Old Trafford and is widely expected to make a move away from the Red Devils, with Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid being linked with moves for the England international.
"It's probably only just come out lately about Wayne Rooney [wanting to leave] but being in the football know, I found out a couple of weeks ago," Fowler said, according to Fox Sports. "So I just had to go home and see whether he would be interested in coming to Perth. "And the signs were good. Really pleased with the chat we had and we'll see where it takes us.
"He's very, very interested. I told him what a lovely place it is. "I told him everything about the city. So he's umming and ahhing at the minute, but it's looking good mate."
But the comments have taken a slightly more serious twist, as the Australian club's deputy chairman Lui Giuliani said: "Well if and it's a big 'if' Wayne Rooney was out of contract and Robbie Fowler could pull some strings, we would love to have him at Perth Glory even as a guest. "If I said four years ago that Robbie Fowler would be playing for Perth Glory I'm sure many people would have had a laugh."
